Build relationships within your school and broader community by hosting a Trunk or Treat in your school parking lot or gym! This is a great opportunity to encourage your school clubs and organizations to work together.

Activity Goal: Build community relationships

People Required: Community and school organizations to host trunks, and student volunteers to control traffic
Space Required: Parking Lot with space for trunks along with space for parking; recommend access to restrooms
Timing: Two – three hours on an October evening
Materials: Parking cones and signs
Cost: Minimal – encourage clubs to cover their own costs

INSTRUCTIONS FOR HOSTING A TRUNK OR TREAT AT SCHOOL:
- With school leaders, choose an evening in October to host a Trunk or Treat and reserve a large spa
- Invite all school clubs and organizations to participate by providing a flyer with expectations:
- Example: Join us in building relationships with our larger community! Please decorate a car trunk, candy, volunteers to pass out candy, and dress up! Themes are encouraged!
- Reach out to clubs and organizations outside of your school to make this a larger
- Promote your Trunk or Treat night by hanging flyers around school, churches, and elementary schools.
- Plan the event space including:
- How cars will be parked—whether in rows or around the perimeter. Make sure there’s plenty of space for families to walk around safely.
- An entrance and exit for cars and people for easy flow and safety.
- Ensure the parking area is well-lit. If it’s a nighttime event, portable lights or glow sticks may be helpful.
- Organize your student leaders to be in charge of setup, cleanup, and safety monitoring during the Trunk or Treat event.
- The week of the event, communicate to each club and organization where they need to park and remind them of expectations and minimum number of volunteers they need to provide.
- On the night of the event, make sure to greet all the families coming to enjoy a safe and fun night of trick or treating, and thank all of your volunteers!

- If you have more than enough volunteers, include fun games like pumpkin bowling, a costume parade, or a photo booth.
